– Team Remington Cadillac (TRC) achieved a 2nd place podium finish in their inaugural Speed World Challenge Event at the legendary Sebring International Raceway.
The TRC Cadillac CTS-V race cars had the second row of the grid covered for the start of the race with Michael McCann starting in 3rd and Andy Pilgrim starting in 4TH.
Monsoon conditions determined the race outcome for the second straight year, noted McCann, the Sebring race’s 2006 winner. “Rain started to fall just as we were getting lined up for the formation lap. With all the horsepower the GT cars have, you just had to know the race was going to be decided by strategy, who stayed smart and a good dose of luck.”
“I have never been so happy to see a checkered flag,” remarked Pilgrim after the race. “That was a really tough race because of the horrendous conditions. I just had to stay focused, these were the worst conditions I have ever raced in at Sebring. Everyone knows this place is very tough in the wet due to all the bad drainage and the mix of old and new surfaces. I am ecstatic with the 2nd place, that’s a great start for TRC”.
Both McCann and Pilgrim, the 2005 season Drivers’ Champion, changed tires early and had to work their way through the 30-car field. There were numerous accidents and damaged cars for the two charging TRC drivers to try to avoid.
“The various accidents reduced the race to only a few laps of green flag racing, which was too bad,” said Pilgrim, “but it was good that Mike, who came all the way back to finish a solid 12th, and I played our cards right and we have two intact cars ready to go to Long Beach.” Pilgrim’s finish was his fourth runner-up result at Sebring in the last five years.
The Sebring race will be televised on SPEED TV Friday, March 21 at 1pm ET. Team Remington Cadillac next races April 20 on the streets of Long Beach, Calif., as part of the annual Long Beach Grand Prix weekend.
