– The 1.9 mile Long Beach street course produced another close race for the World Challenge GT fans who packed the stands. The World Challenge race is the highlight of the weekend for the die hard Long Beach race fans and the racing is always close and the crashes heavy; impacts with 10,000 lb concrete blocks were never more than inches away for the 30 cars and drivers.
Andy Pilgrim gained a second podium finish for TRC in his #8 Remington Cadillac CTS-V by coming in 3rd and holds on to a close third place in the points championship. Michael McCann started 10th and battled a failing gearbox to finish 15th.
“This is the third year the GT cars have raced at Long Beach,” remarked Pilgrim. “It’s a tough place to race for us, we are the heaviest car in the series and threading the needle between these concrete walls is tough, I am very happy to come away from here with 3rd place points. The Long Beach fans are awesome, I must have signed a thousand autographs this weekend”
“I had a tough race today but learned a lot by having to battle a broken transmission and bringing it home to gain some useful points. Another positive side for Team Remington Cadillac is that both Andy and I have race cars that are pretty much ready for the next race in Salt Lake City on May 16-18, and a lot of teams have major damage from these Long Beach streets“ said McCann.
“The Miller Motorsports Park race will be easier on the body shops, there’s a lot of hard acceleration out of 90-degree corners and it’s fast, but there’s plenty of track to race on without looking at concrete,” he grinned.
Pilgrim goes to the next race third in the Drivers’ Championship points; McCann is 11th in his first season with the Cadillac race cars. Cadillac is currently second in the Manufacturer Championship points.
The Long Beach race will be televised on SPEED TV Wednesday, April 30 at Noon ET.
